Early Childhood Program

Program Overview

Community Montessori currently offers a Montessori preschool experience in our Children’s House program, which runs from September through June. The classroom is a multi-age model, serving children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old. During the day, these children come together to form a multi-age community. Our program is designed to be a three year cycle, with children encouraged to return each year until they have completed the entirety of the program. This multi-year model offers children a unique opportunity to advance socially, emotionally, and academically and is a central part of Montessori philosophy. Currently, our program is able to accommodate up to 12 children.

The Montessori Classroom

The physical materials in the Montessori classroom are designed to be hands-on and self-correcting. As the child works with the materials, they develop problem-solving skills and most importantly, they develop focus and concentration which is the foundation for their future learning. The adult provides careful, sequential initial introductions to the materials, after which, the child is free to work independently with these materials at his or her own pace.

The Montessori teacher is a careful observer of each child and knows their areas of interest, strengths, and areas for growth and presents specific materials matched to their interest and skill level. The Montessori classroom has a strong focus on connection and creating a community in which all children can thrive.
